Every city in America has a Humane Society and several animal rescue organizations. You'll often find pure bred animals at shelters. They won't come with official papers, but they will have all the attributes of the breed. If you're looking for a specific kind of pet, tell your local shelter! They will help you find the perfect furry friend. If you're thinking about giving someone a pet for Christmas, please do your research to get the pet that's best for you and your family - and then adopt, don't shop!
Here are some of my favorite shelter pets sporting Santa Suits, to get you in the holiday spirit.
Left: Oscar is a Himalayan and loves cold weather. He doesn't mind wearing the Santa Suit because it keeps him cozy when he's sitting by a frosty window. I adopted Oscar when he was 6 weeks old from Second Chance (he's 11 now).
Middle: Oryx is a beautiful Snowshoe. She was adopted by my friend Sherry from Wayside Waifs. I love Oryx's expression in this photo. She will seek her revenge at nightfall! She looks like the kind of cat the Grinch would have had if he had a cat.
Finally, beautiful Bolt. Bolt is a Boston Terrier and lives in Japan with his human, Mari. I'm not sure where Mari found Bolt, so I'll take this opportunity to plug the KC Pet Project. My friend Stacey is an adoption manager at KCPP and she would love to set you up with the four-legged love of your life!
